What we did for TIM

Challenge

TIM is one of the biggest electro-technical goods distributor in Europe with 25 years of experience on the market and over 170,000 products in warehouses. TIM's founders came to us with an idea for a B2B web-based product: a platform letting expand their customer base, product range and add new product categories. During first year of collaboration, the whole idea evolved a lot. All in all, in 2013 we started working on a completely new concept of the MVP. Here’s where this story begins. The challenge consisted of three core points:

The process

Design workshops

We aimed to design a new product to appeal to corporate-level organizations. To do this, we began an intense design collaboration. We started with workshops, which took more than 100 hours spent with TIM team. During this time we proceed with buyer personas, process designing and building one coherent mockup prototype.

Digital prototypes and user testing

In the next phase we prepared digital version of prototypes. Releasing the product to the market it became clear we need to make sure it's user friendly. So we began with prototypes testing with users what is crucial for success of every eCommerce project.

Choosing the right technology

In order to deliver the most flexible solution for omnichannel eCommerce B2B business we recomended using Magento as a core platform with our extensions and bunch of integrations.  Core activities on this stage included:

The project was very complex and required about 12, sophisticated, almost real-time integrations with CRM, WMS, ERP - to list just a few. We achieved the required performance and High Availability by leveraging on service bus (ESB) and fully redundant server architecture based on the private cloud.

The outcome

Finally we managed to release a complex omnichannel solution based on open source modules accordingly to the established deadlines. As a part of the system’s architecture, many improvements that affected scalability and performance were made. All the dedicated functions are implemented as extra Magento modules. That way, you are still able to update your Magento.  

With a swift MVP release, TIM sales team could immediately begin looking for a market fit. Ever since, we use scrum methodologies to deliver releasable product after every iteration, giving TIM a competitive advantage.  Now TIM serves numerous B2B clients with over 100 mln EUR revenue from online channel.  The success consisted of those ingredients:
